Promoting Sustainable Transportation

SF State is committed to being a walkable, bikeable, transit-oriented campus.

Our Goal: Reduce our Drive-Alone Rate

In 2009, SF State adopted a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Plan to guide its efforts to minimize transportation impacts associated with the university's growth. It aims to minimize peak-period vehicle trips to the campus by promoting access to alternative modes of transportation. Click here to read the TDM Plan

SF State supports SFMTA's goal of 50% non-auto (transit, bicycling, walking and taxi) trips by 2018 and the Board of Supervisors' resolution of 20% of trips by bicycle by 2020.

    Our Progress

SF State conducts a transportation survey every three years to determine how commuters get to campus. Our drive-alone rate is steadily decreasing as more students, staff, and faculty commute via public transportation.
